A Year for the Animals and the Earth is a project where I, Martin Smedjeback, work full-time for a year for animal rights and the climate. I have been running the project A Year for the Animals since 2015 until today. I have lectured and held workshops in animal rights, I have handed out leaflets, taken photos and videos filmed, I have written articles and blogg posts, freed animals, campaigned outside of slaughterhouses and many other activities. For 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 I have expanded the project to also include activism for the climate issue.
My goal is work with others to make tomorrow a better place for as many as possible. The project is taking place in Sweden and mainly in Swedish, but I also do activities abroad like lectures, actions and interviews.
I have been a nonviolence facilitator and peace activist since 2001. Before that I took a bachelor's degree in psychology. I have held nonviolence workshops in Sudan, South Sudan, Colombia, Israel/Palestine, USA, Great Britain and Sweden. I wrote articles about nonviolence, peace, weapons export and on other topics. Since then my interest for animal rights have increased. Before this project I toured Sweden holding a lecture called Why we love dogs, eat pigs and wear cows, based on the research of the psychologist and author Melanie Joy. In the end of this page there are some material of and about me in English.
Here are some voices on who Martin is.
